First off, let me say that if you have to take the EtG Alcohol test, chances are there is a reason for it. Cheating urine test may also be illegal depending on your situation. So don’t break the law. This article is “for information only“, we are not responsible for how or where you use it.

- Common Questions
Just like any other form of testing or screening there are things you can do that might help tip the scales in your favor. The alcohol test is no exception to the rule. But lets face the facts, the best way of passing Etg Test, the alcohol test is not to drink alcohol. Now on to the fun stuff!
What is Ethyl Glucuronide?
Any thing that enters your body is processed and broken down. Once this happens metabolites, the by products, are created. When it comes to drug or alcohol testing, besides testing for the active chemical, metabolites are used. Metabolites are a very accurate form of testing.
Heres the thing, unlike the active substance, this case alcohol which is only detectable while intoxicated. The by product metabolite can be detectable for days, weeks and even months.
EtG is “ethyl glucuronide”, the metabolite created through alcohol consumption. It is the marker used for alcohol detection. Another metabolite that can at times be tested for is EtS or “ethyl sulfate”.

The problem with EtG and EtS is the length of detection time. Alcohol is only detectable in urine for a few hours after use. That of course depends on how much and for how long you have been drinking. EtG on the other hand is detectable for up to 4 days after drinking alcohol. More accurately its detectable in urine for up to 96 hours after your last drink.
In some cases it can be detected for even longer. This study recorded by NIH.gov is an example of alcohol detection in urine even after 5 days or 130hrs.
In the US, Drug and alcohol testing rules are determined by a SAMHSA. They set guidelines that are meant for creating a fair testing system. One of the key points to drug and alcohol testing is Cutoffs. A cutoff level is set to reduce the amount of “false Positives”, if the detection level is set to low the accuracy of the screening is undermined.
Unlike with drug bio markers, EtG cutoffs are setup in levels. This way abstinence from alcohol can be measured in days. If you have had a drink within the week of testing, its not only detectable, but they can also roughly determine when you had your last drink.
Detection levels in urine:
- > 1,000 ng/mL – This level indicates the consumption of alcohol the same day or within 24hr
- < 1,000 ng/mL – Detection of 500 to 1,000 ng/mL indicates consumption 1-3 days before testing
- < 500 ng/mL – over 1-3 days since last drink
Will drinking a lot of water clear out EtG?
This technique is referred to as “diluting” and the answer here is kind of tricky. While drinking a lot of water will drop EtG / EtS levels in urine, it also flushing out other naturally occurring minerals found in urine.
All UA’s currently test for dilution. This is done by testing for naturally occurring minerals like creatine. This by product. creatinine is constantly being created by the kidneys. It happens when your system breaks down proteins and every one in moderately good health produces creatinine.
“Low or no creatinine in urine triggers dilution and fails!”
How to Pass an EtG Alcohol Test
Now that we have a good Idea of what an alcohol test is and what it test for, lets investigate our current options and chances of passing.
- Staying sober for longer that 1 week, chance of passing 100%
- Staying sober for 7 days, chance of passing 90%
- Drinking within the week, chance of passing < 50%
- Drinking within the past 3 days, chance of passing 0%
Detoxing alcohol faster
The natural detox processes takes time and depending on your situation, you may not have time. In this case there are a few thing that we can do to help speed up the detox process. One of the most common ways to flush out your system is by using a detox. The most commonly used detox for EtG detection is CertoClear.

Using a Detox
It’s important to understand that most detox products are not permanent solutions. They usually mask, temporarily flush, divert urine detection or replenish minerals that trigger dilution. The way CertoClear works is by diverting toxins in urine and replenishing minerals. For example, in most short notice situations, the best way to detox alcohol would be dilution.
By diluting, you are drinking enough water to totally flush out your kidneys and urine. In most cases a gallon of water within a 2 – 4 hour period would do the trick. The problem here is Creatinine has also been flushed out. This will result in a failure for dilution. In order to avoid this, normal minerals and vitamins need to be replenished without reintroducing EtG into your system.
CertoClear is a mix of detox agents, minerals and pectin fiber. After flushing your system, drinking Certoclear will reintroduce Creatinine, while pectin fiber continues to absorb any additional EtG /EtS that may still be floating around your system.
CertoClear is available on-line through Amazon or the Manufacturers site
Naturally through diet and exercise
If time isn’t an issue you may choice to cleanse your system naturally. Even though it may take longer, making these changes will result in a long lasting change. That means getting a drinking habit in order and under control. Lets brake this down into three parts.
The first step of course would be abstinence. That means making the decision to quit and sticking to it. I know that some times that can be easier said than done. Here are a few things you can do to improve your chances:
- Stay busy
- Avoid friend that may encourage drinking
- Avoid setting that can trigger drinking
- Identify what situations that trigger emotions
Long term drinking habit can cause damage to internal organs, especially the liver. Part of the alcohol detoxing process is to put your health first! Its time to pay more attention to what our body is trying to tell you. Start healing by improving your diet and sleeping routine.
- Make better diet choices
- Stick by a regular sleeping schedule
- Get a gym membership and exercise at least 3x a week
- Drink plenty of fluids and water
- If you smoke try to quit
It’s OK to ask for help. Most of us will try our best to avoid admitting weakness or may be have trouble identifying it. There are a few ways we can step out side our selfs for a better prospective on the situation.
- Ask friends and love ones
- Have you broke your promises to your self?
- Are you putting off priorities for old habits?
Flushing out EtG Quick
If you would rather try and go the natural route instead of using a detox like CertoClear, here is how. First understand that naturally clearing alcohol from your system can take more time. If thats not a problem, here are a few tips:
- Drink plenty of water
- Exercise, EtG is released through sweat
- Eat more fiber
- Don’t drink for at least 3-5 days
- Drink water and pee a few times before giving a sample
